Around the world, anger is rising as Israel begins bombing civilians in Gaza after breaking a ceasefire

Governments, UN officials, and human rights groups around the world are outraged that Israel has started attacking the Gaza Strip again. They say that the attack could ruin a ceasefire deal that was supposed to end the 17-month genocidal assault on the besieged Palestinian territory.

Over 400 Palestinians, mostly women and children, were killed on Tuesday when the occupying force started its brutal war on Gaza again. This broke the fragile two-month truce deal between Israel and Hamas, the Palestinian resistance movement.

Antonio Guterres, the Secretary-General of the UN, said he was “shocked” by Israel’s attack and that the suffering of the Palestinians in Gaza was “intolerable.” Philippe Lazzarini, the head of UNRWA, the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, said that starting the war again would make “hell on Earth worse.”

Volker Turk, who is responsible for human rights at the UN, said that the “airstrikes and shelling that killed hundreds are horrifying.” This nightmare needs to stop right away.

Turk also said that the strikes would “add tragedy on top of tragedy.” He called for an end to the violence right away and the absolute release of prisoners and abductees held by Hamas and the Israeli government.

He said, “The last 18 months of violence have made it obvious that there is no military way out of this crisis.” He called for a political solution that would be reasonable under international law. “Israel’s decision to use even more military force will only make things worse for a Palestinian population that is already living in terrible conditions.”

Muhannad Hadi, who is responsible for humanitarian issues in the occupied Palestinian land and works for the UN, said that Israel’s latest attack was “unconscionable.”

UNICEF, the UN agency that looks out for children, said, “The reports and pictures coming out of Gaza are heartbreaking.” Reports say that some of the strikes hit temporary shelters where families and children were sleeping. This shows once again that Gaza is not safe anywhere.

UNICEF said that the one million children living in Gaza are now trapped in even more fear and danger than they were before. They asked Israel to instantly resume the ceasefire and asked world leaders to step in before things get worse.

UNICEF also asked that international humanitarian law be followed, that civilians be protected, and that help be sent right away. “Enough with the attacks and violence right now.”

A Muslim rights and advocacy group in Washington, DC, called CAIR, said in a statement that it was against the cabinet of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu “resuming its horrific and genocidal attacks on the men, women, and children of Gaza, killing hundreds of civilians in a matter of hours.”

Rachael Cummings, who works for Save the Children and is based in Deir al-Balah in central Gaza, said that the end of the ceasefire was “nothing short of a death sentence for Gaza’s children.”

She described the denial of help during the holy month of Ramadan as “a grave violation against children.”

It made Antonio Costa, the head of the European Council, sad to hear about what was happening in Gaza. “Violence must stop, and the terms of the ceasefire agreement must be respected,” he said. “All prisoners and hostages must be freed right away, and aid must be sent again right away,” he wrote on X.

Hadja Lahbib, who is responsible for EU help, said that the “new escalation in Gaza is devastating.” Civilians have been through unbearable pain. “This has to end.”
