KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 27: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim held a brief but meaningful bilateral meeting with United States President Donald Trump on Monday morning before Trump departed for Tokyo, Japan, continuing his first Asian tour of his second presidential term.

In a statement posted on his official Facebook page, Anwar said the meeting provided an opportunity to review the outcomes of recent Malaysia and US bilateral discussions, particularly in areas of trade, technology, and regional security cooperation.

“I also conveyed my deep appreciation to President Trump for his instrumental role in advancing the Kuala Lumpur Peace Accord and the Gaza Peace Plan,” Anwar said.

The Kuala Lumpur Peace Accord, signed between Cambodia and Thailand on the sidelines of the 47th ASEAN Summit, was witnessed by both leaders. The accord also established an ASEAN observer team to monitor peace efforts and ensure long-term stability in the conflict-affected border regions.

Anwar described both the KL Peace Accord and the Gaza Peace Plan as “beacons of hope for achieving a just and lasting peace in the region and beyond.”

The meeting also reaffirmed the growing strategic partnership between Malaysia and the United States, highlighted by the signing of two key agreements on Monday: the Agreement on Reciprocal Tariffs and a Memorandum of Understanding on Critical Minerals Cooperation.

President Trump departed from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport aboard Air Force One at 10:06 a.m., concluding his two-day visit to Malaysia.

Malaysia marked Trump’s first stop in his official Asian tour, which continues with visits to Tokyo and Seoul, where he is scheduled to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit on October 28.

The brief yet productive meeting between the two leaders underscored the importance of continued Malaysia US engagement in fostering peace, economic growth, and regional stability.
