‘A Million Thanks…’ – Shuhaily Expresses Gratitude for Public Prayers and Support

SEPANG: “A million thanks to everyone who has supported me through their prayers and messages.”

These were the words of appreciation expressed by Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) Director-General Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain to members of the public whose encouragement had given him strength and confidence to face legal proceedings in court today.

Mohd Shuhaily said the support from people across all walks of life meant a great deal to him as he went through the legal process.

“That is what gives me the strength and confidence to continue facing these legal proceedings,” he briefly told reporters at the lobby of the Sepang Sessions and Magistrates’ Court Complex here this morning.

Mohd Shuhaily said he would leave it to the court to conduct the legal proceedings in accordance with the proper procedures.

Earlier, Mohd Shuhaily, 54, arrived at the court complex to face two charges of voluntarily causing hurt to two Special Branch police officers, Corporal Mohammad Faiz Muhamad Saman and Muhammad Ekmal Sofwan Driman, at Terminal 1 of Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) on September 28.

The charges were brought under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of one year’s imprisonment, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both upon conviction.

Yesterday, Berita Harian (BH) reported that Mohd Shuhaily was prepared to accept any decision made by the country’s legal system following the charges brought against him in court today.

Mohd Shuhaily was quoted as reiterating that, as he had previously stated, efforts to improve Malaysia’s border security came at a “price”, and that price was himself.

“I accept and respect whatever decision is made, and I will appear in court,” he said yesterday.
