Bernama reported that just a few hours after arriving in the city on July 4, Ng Shu Lin was hit by a piece of concrete that fell from the Yau Lai Building in Nathan Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, resulting in his head injury.

At the time of the incident, the 44-year-old man was passing through an area busy with pedestrians and tall buildings on his way to a seminar.

According to his friend, Yap Shy Cuan, 48, the impact of the incident caused Ng to fall, but people immediately helped him.

Yap said, as a result of the injury, his friend had undergone two operations

“Ng has undergone two operations, but there are still fragments of concrete that cannot be detected and removed.

“The second surgery was just performed yesterday. (Ng) is expected to leave the hospital tomorrow,” he said.

The victim who was treated at Hong Kong Baptist Hospital was reported to be in a stable condition, but weak.

He plans to meet with a lawyer after leaving the hospital to consider legal action over the incident.

Reports from the scene indicated several pieces of concrete were found on the sidewalk, with cracks visible in the underside of the building’s canopy.

The Fire Department used ladders to remove other pieces of concrete that were loose and at risk of falling from the 61-year-old building.

According to the Building Department, a statutory notice for mandatory building inspection was issued earlier for the communal area of the building and the inspection was carried out in accordance with the notice.
