ISLAMABAD: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has expressed deep appreciation for Pakistan’s steadfast support during the recent 12-day Israeli-American war against Iran, describing it as a powerful reflection of the enduring bond between the two nations.

Speaking at a joint press conference with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad on Sunday, President Pezeshkian said the united position taken by Pakistan’s government, parliament, political parties, religious scholars, and the public was “very heartening.”

“The support extended by Pakistan during this period of hardship not only strengthens our friendship but also demonstrates the depth of solidarity within the Muslim world,” Pezeshkian stated.

The Iranian president was referring to the conflict that erupted on June 13, when Israel launched a large-scale military assault on Iran, killing at least 1,064 people, including top military officials, nuclear scientists, and civilians. The United States later joined the aggression by bombing three Iranian nuclear sites—an action Iran strongly condemned as a severe breach of international law.

Iran responded with coordinated military operations targeting both Israeli and American assets, ultimately leading to a cessation of hostilities on June 24.

President Pezeshkian emphasized the need for enhanced regional cooperation, stating, “Regional peace, stability, and security are essential prerequisites for development. Our future is deeply interconnected.”

He stressed that Iran’s foreign policy is rooted in the principle of neighborliness, adding, “We do not view Pakistan merely as a neighbor, but as a brother.”

During the press conference, both leaders strongly condemned Israeli actions in Palestine, Lebanon, and Syria, including what they called the ongoing genocide in Gaza. Pezeshkian and Sharif agreed that stronger and more coordinated action by Muslim nations is necessary to confront Israel’s aggressive and expansionist agenda.

The Iranian president also called on international bodies, particularly the United Nations Security Council, to abandon double standards and take decisive action against violations of sovereignty, civilian massacres, and illegal military interventions.

Pezeshkian thanked the Pakistani leadership and people for their hospitality and extended a formal invitation to Prime Minister Sharif to visit Tehran to continue their strategic discussions.

President Pezeshkian arrived in Islamabad on Saturday for a two-day official visit at the invitation of Prime Minister Sharif. The visit culminated in the signing of 12 bilateral agreements, covering cooperation in science and technology, trade and economy, transportation and transit, tourism, and agriculture, signaling a renewed commitment to deepening ties across multiple sectors.
