PM Anwar Ibrahim to Visit Indonesia for 13th Annual Consultation with President Prabowo Subianto

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will undertake a working visit to Indonesia from July 28 to 29, 2025, to attend the 13th Annual Consultation with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto.

Anwar will be accompanied by Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari Abang Openg, Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, and Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Annual Consultation serves as the highest bilateral mechanism between Malaysia and Indonesia, aimed at strengthening strategic and comprehensive cooperation. Established in 2006, the meeting alternates between the two countries and reflects strong political commitment to enhancing collaboration in various sectors, including trade and investment, defense and security, connectivity, food security, and education.

Both leaders are also expected to exchange views on regional and international issues of mutual concern.

This will be the first annual consultation between Anwar and Prabowo Subianto in their current capacities. The last consultation was held in 2017, making this meeting a significant opportunity to advance strategic relations and explore new areas of cooperation in addressing current regional and global challenges.

A joint statement will be issued following the consultation. Additionally, the two leaders will witness the signing of four memoranda of understanding (MoUs) covering land border issues, health cooperation, and information and communication technology (ICT).

As part of the visit, Anwar is also scheduled to visit the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta at the invitation of the ASEAN Secretary-General. The Prime Minister will deliver a keynote address on ASEAN in conjunction with Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship in 2025, reaffirming Malaysia’s continued commitment to regional integration and community-building efforts.
