Police have confirmed receiving a report regarding a controversial marriage motivation programme allegedly involving inappropriate activities and elements of syirik (polytheistic practices), as claimed in viral social media posts. The event is believed to have taken place between September 27 and 30 last year.

According to Shah Alam District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim, the report was lodged at the end of February this year by a man whose wife attended the said programme.

“Today, we have recorded statements from the complainant’s wife and several witnesses at the location.
Certain details still need to be verified before any further action is taken by either the police or the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS),” he said in a statement on Saturday.

JAIS has also been notified and is assisting in the investigation.

“We urge the media to be patient as investigations are still in the early stages. Police need to first confirm whether the alleged incidents actually occurred.

“If there are other individuals who were witnesses or possess evidence such as photos or videos, they are encouraged to come forward and assist the investigation by contacting Shah Alam District Police Headquarters (IPD) or Investigating Officer ASP Anuar Amilah at 019-2255597,” he added.

On Friday, the Director-General of the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM), Datuk Sirajuddin Suhaimee, stated that JAKIM and JAIS are jointly investigating the matter to verify the authenticity of the allegations before taking further legal action.

Earlier, a social media user alleged that the final day of the programme involved nude dancing and suspicious rituals. The individual also claimed that participants were given a special drink that made them act beyond normal boundaries.

She stated that all evidence related to the programme had been submitted to religious authorities but expressed frustration over the lack of action thus far.
