Over 70 Indonesians Evacuated from Iran Arrive Safely in Indonesia: Foreign Ministry
JAKARTA|| June 28: A total of 73 evacuees, including 72 Indonesian citizens and one Iranian national married to an Indonesian, have arrived safely in Indonesia after being evacuated from Iran, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed on Friday.
The group is part of 97 individuals who chose to leave Iran amid escalating tensions in the region following the outbreak of conflict between Iran and Israel earlier this month.
“The Indonesian government has successfully evacuated 73 individuals, consisting of 72 Indonesian nationals and one Iranian national,” said Judha Nugraha, Director for the Protection of Indonesian Citizens at the Foreign Affairs Ministry, in a written statement.
According to Nugraha, the remaining 24 Indonesian nationals are currently in Baku, Azerbaijan, and are scheduled to return to Indonesia on staggered flights over the coming days.
- Six evacuees will depart Baku on June 28, transiting through Doha and Bangkok.
- Five others will fly out on June 29.
- We expect the final group of 13 to depart on June 30, also making a transit stop in Doha.
“The Foreign Ministry continues to coordinate closely with Indonesian embassies in all transit countries to ensure that the entire evacuation process proceeds safely and smoothly,” Nugraha added.
Beyond the Iran evacuations, Indonesia also facilitated the evacuation of three citizens from Houthi-controlled northern Yemen with assistance from the Indonesian Embassy in Muscat. The Indonesian Embassy in Amman supported the evacuation of two more Indonesians from Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. All five arrived in Jakarta on Wednesday.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has raised the alert status to Level 1—the highest level—for multiple regions, including Iran, Jordan, Israel, and Palestine, due to the worsening security situation. The Level 1 alert for Iran was officially declared on June 18.
The evacuation mission reflects Indonesia’s ongoing commitment to protect its citizens abroad amid regional conflicts and geopolitical instability.
