Kuala Lumpur—24 June 2025: Malaysian authorities have arrested a 50-year-old foreign worker in possession of over 20 kilograms of methamphetamine during a raid at a shopping mall in Taman Melawati, Ampang.
According to Ampang Jaya District Police Chief ACP Mohd Azam Ismail, the arrest took place at approximately 12:35 p.m. on Saturday, June 21, as part of an ongoing anti-narcotics operation.
“The suspect was found with 20.85 kilograms of methamphetamine, with an estimated street value of RM80,000,” ACP Mohd Azam said in a statement released Tuesday.
Initial investigations revealed that the suspect has been residing in Malaysia for about 10 years. A urine test conducted after the arrest returned positive for both methamphetamine and amphetamine. However, police confirmed that the individual has no prior criminal record.
The suspect is believed to have been acting as a drug courier or mule, although investigations are still ongoing to determine the full extent of his involvement and whether he is linked to a larger trafficking network.
The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which pertains to drug trafficking offenses involving large quantities of narcotics.
If convicted, the suspect faces a mandatory death sentence or life imprisonment, along with a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane.
“The suspect has been remanded for seven days to assist with further investigations,” Mohd Azam confirmed.
This arrest marks another success in the ongoing efforts by Malaysian police to curb the distribution of dangerous drugs within the Klang Valley area. Authorities continue to urge the public to report any suspicious activity related to drug trafficking or abuse.
