MOSCOW, June 24— Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi met with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday in a high-level diplomatic meeting at the Kremlin to discuss escalating regional tensions, ongoing nuclear cooperation, and the recent wave of U.S. and Israeli attacks on Iranian territory.

Araghchi, calling the visit “critical and significant,” emphasized that Iran-Russia relations have reached a strategic level, especially amid what he described as unprovoked aggression by Israel and the United States.

“The current situation requires close consultation between our countries,” Araghchi said, describing Iran-Russia ties as “very close and historic.” He noted that Russia had always played a constructive role in past nuclear negotiations and continues to stand by Iran during moments of crisis.

The visit came just one day after American bombers targeted three nuclear facilities in Iran—Natanz, Isfahan, and Fordow—in what Tehran calls a blatant violation of international law. The strikes marked the formal entry of the Trump administration into the military confrontation between Israel and Iran, which began on June 13 following the assassination of Iranian commanders and scientists.

In parallel, Iran has launched multiple phases of Operation True Promise III, deploying new-generation missiles in response to ongoing Israeli and U.S. actions.

During the meeting, President Putin strongly condemned the military actions taken by the United States and Israel, calling them “unjustified and without any legal basis.”

“These attacks represent aggression against a sovereign nation and violate the principles of international law and the UN Charter,” Putin said. He reaffirmed that Russia had already expressed its official position through statements at the UN Security Council and via the Russian Foreign Ministry.

Putin added that Russia remains committed to assisting the Iranian people and seeks a peaceful resolution to the escalating conflict.

Araghchi expressed deep appreciation for Russia’s support, saying Moscow’s position reflects a commitment to justice, diplomacy, and the rule of law.

“Russia is on the right side of international law, and we appreciate its clear stance in condemning these unlawful attacks,” he stated.

The Iranian diplomat also conveyed the greetings of Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei and President Masoud Pezeshkian to the Russian leader, underlining the importance of sustained cooperation between the two nations.

Both sides agreed to intensify bilateral coordination in the face of mounting regional volatility. Putin noted that Iran and Russia must think together about solutions to de-escalate tensions and protect regional stability.

The Kremlin meeting is expected to be followed by further diplomatic exchanges and multilateral discussions, especially as international concern grows over the potential for a broader conflict in the Middle East.
