PETALING JAYA, June 23— A new Merdeka Center study shows Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s approval rating at 55%, boosted by improving economic indicators, political stability, and institutional changes.

The May independent survey of 1,208 registered voters credits the growth to Malaysians’ rising confidence in Anwar’s administration and national stability. The survey found that political stability and the government’s two-thirds majority in Parliament had boosted popular trust.

Merdeka Center stated that institutional reforms like the Parliamentary Services Act 2025 resurrection herald a return to principled and accountable governance.

Economic Recovery Increases Trust
Recent government economic actions appear to have boosted popular sentiment:
March 2025 saw the lowest inflation in three years at 1.4%. The first quarter of 2025 saw 4.4% economic growth. The minimum wage rose to RM1,700.

Christmas monetary aid for civil staff and fuel subsidies eased cost-of-living problems.

“These actions have helped mitigate public frustration, particularly among lower-income groups,” the research firm said.

Government Approval and Public Concerns
Anwar’s personal approval jumped to 55%, and the federal government’s rose to 50% from 40% in June 2024. Compared to 58% a year ago, government dissatisfaction is now 48%.

The poll also indicated ongoing issues: Despite an improvement from 61% last year, 50% of voters think the country is going badly.

Compared to 29% in June 2024, 43% now think Malaysia is on the right track.

The institute said, “Concerns over the national economy and uncertainty about subsidy rationalization remain the main drivers of public unease.”

Merdeka Center has acknowledged Anwar’s international diplomacy efforts in boosting Malaysia’s worldwide standing. Highlights are
