KUALA LUMPUR, June 20— Newly appointed Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail has pledged to prioritize the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) as part of a broader initiative to modernize and enhance the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).
Speaking after the official “Beating of the Retreat” ceremony marking the retirement of former IGP Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, Mohd Khalid expressed his commitment to building on the legacy of his predecessor and elevating the capabilities of the police force.
“I believe I will continue the legacy left by my predecessor, and the position is a valuable opportunity for me to further strengthen our capacity in combating crime, especially cross-border criminal activities,” he said.
“God willing, I aim to take the police force to greater heights in line with the demands of modernization. The integration of artificial intelligence is a vital step forward in addressing various challenges and threats more effectively,” he added.
Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid also affirmed that he had already begun work in his new role, signaling an immediate start to his responsibilities.
“Yes, in a way, I have already started,” he said with a smile.
He also extended heartfelt appreciation to all members of the police force, acknowledging their daily dedication and commitment.
“I salute every officer and personnel for their relentless efforts in serving the nation. Their steadfast devotion is the backbone of our success,” he said.
The new IGP’s focus on AI underscores a growing recognition of the need for advanced technologies in law enforcement, especially in the face of evolving security threats in the digital era.
