Today, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said that the ASEAN-GCC-China Summit shows how powerful it is for regional groups to work together, which will be beneficial for the whole world.

Anwar, who is currently Chair of ASEAN, said that their unity shows how well regional ties have been reshaped to adapt to the changing dynamics of a multipolar world.

In his opening comments at the 46th ASEAN Summit and other meetings, he said, “ASEAN member countries must protect the multilateral system.”

Anwar, who is also the finance minister, said that the 57-year-old group should make sure that the ASEAN-GCC-China geo-economic model continues to play an important role in building a better future for everyone in the region and for the people who live there.

Malaysia will be the chair in 2025, and their theme is “Inclusivity and Sustainability.”

King Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei, President Prabowo Subianto of Indonesia, Prime Minister Hun Manet of Cambodia, Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone of Laos, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh of Vietnam, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. of the Philippines, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong of Singapore, and Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra of Thailand were all there.

Prime Minister Xanana Gusmão of Timor-Leste was also there as an observer, as was Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, the secretary-general of ASEAN.

Malaysia has been responsible for the regional group ASEAN five times, in 1977, 1997, 2005, and 2015. This is their fifth time in charge.

Along with the summit, two important high-level meetings will take place: the second ASEAN-GCC Summit and the first ASEAN-GCC-China Summit. These meetings will serve as strategic platforms to improve relations within and between regions.
