Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar said that Indonesia wants to end extreme poverty by 2026 and is speeding up its efforts to reach this goal.
“We’ve met with ministries and agencies to talk about how to accelerate the process of reducing poverty and extreme poverty.”
“The meeting is in response to the president’s order to get rid of all extreme poverty by at least 2026,” Iskandar told reporters in Jakarta.
This person said that there are 24.8 million poor people in Indonesia right now, which is 8.7 percent of the total population.
The goal of the government is to get the poverty rate down to 4.5% by 2029.
He said that making sure that people who get government programs like social assistance and housing subsidies are correctly addressed is one of the most important things that needs to be done to reach this goal.
Iskandar also said, “Hopefully, our poverty rate will go down even more.” – Xinhua
