Before knowing that my younger sibling was involved in an accident, I read a message in a WhatsApp group about the crash involving a trailer that had blocked the road.

“So I forwarded the message to my sister-in-law at 2:03 AM with a reminder to be careful, but there was no reply,” said the brother of Nurul Syafika Anis Zulkifli, 26, who died in the accident along with her husband, Muhammad Syamie Farhan Adnan, 25, late last night.

Mohamad Hasbi said that at around 2:30 AM, police officers contacted him to inform him about the incident and also told him that his sibling and in-law had passed away at the scene.

The joy of Nurul Syafika Anis and Muhammad Syamie Farhan, along with their two children, returning from a weekend holiday in Kota Bharu ended in tragedy when they were involved in an accident on Jalan Gua Musang-Kuala Krai, near Bandar Utama Gua Musang, this morning.

Muhammad Syamie Farhan and Nurul Syafika Anis, who lived in Gua Musang, died at the scene after being trapped, while their two children, 10-month-old Nur Irdina Delisha and 5-year-old Muhammad Izz Danial, who were seriously injured, were rushed to Hospital Raja Perempuan Zainab II (HRPZ II).

Mohamad Hasbi, 32, said that Nurul Syafika Anis and her family left for Kota Bharu for a holiday at around 7 AM yesterday.

He mentioned that the last time he spoke to his late sister was before she left for Gua Musang, and she told him that they would depart late as they wanted to have a meal with another brother.

“I was also informed that my two nephews had been sent to HRPZ II for treatment as they sustained injuries to their abdomen,” he said when met at the Forensic Unit of Gua Musang Hospital.

Mohamad Hasbi said that the loss of Nurul Syafika Anis was deeply felt by the family as she was the youngest of four siblings and the only daughter in their family.

He added that she was very excited about the trip to Kota Bharu with her family, as her husband, who worked as a carpenter, rarely had time off.

“She told me she wanted to go to Kota Bharu for a short getaway while her husband was on leave. The three of us siblings went to Kota Bharu yesterday but traveled at different times.

“I returned first and reached Gua Musang at around 11 PM, while she departed later, and another brother stayed overnight in Kota Bharu.

“Even though we are deeply saddened by the loss of our youngest sister and her husband, we accept this as a test from God. I am unsure about the current condition of my nephews,” he said.

The remains will be laid to rest at the Kampung Lembaga Islamic Cemetery.
