A total of 2,800 Malaysian Army (TDM) personnel are prepared for deployment to aid flood victims in Sarawak and Sabah, following the worsening flood situation in both states.

Army Chief General Tan Sri Muhammad Hafizuddeain Jantan stated that the 1st Division in Sarawak and the 5th Division in Sabah have already been mobilized to provide assistance.

“The floods in Sarawak have affected 13 districts. We have instructed the Eastern Field Commander to work closely with all relevant security agencies. Thankfully, the presence of military personnel has significantly supported other enforcement bodies.

“Although we are not the primary agency responsible for disaster management, our policy is to act as the first responders,” he said after attending the Passing Out Parade for Male Recruit Training Series 201/2024 and Female Series 49/2024 at the Army Basic Training Center (PUSASDA).

According to reports from the Disaster Operations Control Center, the Malaysian government, and the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma), as of 12 PM today, a total of 26 districts in Sarawak and Sabah have been affected by floods. The number of evacuees has dropped to 15,009 from 17,637 earlier at 6 AM.

Currently, 4,416 families are seeking shelter at 87 Temporary Evacuation Centers (PPS) across both states.
