Lebanese army says Israel broke the truce by setting homes on fire in southern Lebanon
The Lebanese army says that Israeli forces have broken the terms of a ceasefire deal with the Hezbollah resistance movement by moving into the towns of Qantara and Taybeh in the Marjayoun district in southern Lebanon and setting fire to several homes.
“Hostile forces today invaded Qantara and Tayba and burnt down several homes there,” the army said in a statement on Sunday. “The Israeli enemy is continuing to break the ceasefire agreement and attack the sovereignty of Lebanon and its people.”
It also said, “A joint patrol of the Lebanese Army and the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) headed to the site of the incursion to keep an eye on things, working with the five-person committee in charge of the ceasefire agreement.”
It said that the “hostile” forces started to leave the two areas, and the Lebanese army is working to clear the roads that the Israeli enemy had blocked.
After losing a lot of soldiers and not being able to achieve its goals in its attack on Lebanon over 14 months, Israel had no choice but to agree to the ceasefire with Hezbollah.
As of November 27, the peace deal was law. There will be no fighting for 60 days in the hopes of ending the conflict for good.
As part of the agreement, the US will lead an international monitoring group that is in charge of making sure the ceasefire is followed.
The Israeli army broke the ceasefire deal with Hezbollah 11 times on Saturday. Since the beginning of the month, Israel has broken the agreement 330 times.
Under the excuse of “facing threats from Hezbollah,” Israeli troops broke the ceasefire agreement in Lebanon 319 times by the end of Friday.
The Health Ministry of Lebanon says that since the ceasefire deal went into effect, Israeli attacks have killed at least 32 people and hurt 38 others.
Hezbollah started supporting Palestinians in Gaza the day after Israel declared war on the besieged area in October 2023. They did this by attacking Israeli targets in the seized lands many times in response.
