The Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) is coming up soon, and parents and teachers in Kelantan, the state most badly hit by the floods, want the exams to be rescheduled.

A female teacher in Tanah Merah is hoping for a postponement of the exams.

She helped the rescue teams get 58 children from her school to the flood relief centers. Of those, 38 were scheduled to take the SPM. “The water is high, and there’s no power available.”

All the students looked upset and worried about their test scores.”

“The poor quality of this line prevents them from communicating with their parents.”

“We’ve been leaving for so long.” When questioned yesterday, she stated, “They also don’t have enough clothes to wear at this point.”

The SPM test will take place next year from December 2 to February 6.

Norlaila Ahmad, 46, a housewife from Tanah Merah, is afraid that the floods will cut off the power to her home.

“Just her tablet is all my daughter needs to study.” No energy is available, so she is only using battery power.

“I believe it’s justifiable to postpone the SPM to ensure optimal study conditions for our children.”

Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Zambry Abdul Kadir announced in Putrajaya that students at public higher education schools affected by the floods would receive assistance in the form of food baskets and transportation to school.

“We are working on this with the National Disaster Management Agency,” he said, adding that universities have set up hotlines to help the students.
