Elon Musk apparently joined Trump’s phone discussion with Zelenskyy over fears over the Russia-Ukraine war
Based on a trustworthy source, the famous tech entrepreneur Elon Musk was in on a discussion between US President-elect Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky the day following the election.
Another source said that Trump was with Musk at Mar-a-Lago when Zelensky called to congrats on his win. A source with specifics about the call briefed the otherwise friendly and cheerful talk.
During the call, Trump activated the speaker so Zelensky could express gratitude to Musk for sending Starlink communications to Ukraine amidst the ongoing conflict with Russia. According to the cited individual, the call lasted about seven minutes without any policy talks.
Zelensky earlier told X he had visited Trump on Wednesday, praising his “historic landslide” victory. He said, “We decided to keep constant communication and forward our partnership. A fair peace and global stability rely on the strong and consistent leadership of the United States.Trump’s triumph comes at a pivotal point for Kyiv as Russia pushes the eastern Donbas, which President Vladimir Putin wants totally under control.
Trump voiced questions about the ongoing US assistance for Kyiv during his campaign, implying that the US may force Ukraine into a dubious truce with Russia.
Musk, whose pro-Trump superPAC spent more than $118 million in the 2024 campaign, has suggested spearheading a large-scale drive to cut government expenditure. Billions of dollars in government contracts—including those from NASA, the military, and other government agencies—have also helped him.
Since the 2022 invasion, Musk’s Starlink internet service has been crucial for the Ukrainian military, enabling real-time communication and drone feed sharing in conflict-affected areas. SpaceX’s sponsorship of Starlink significantly improved Ukraine’s frontline forces, earning Musk significant appreciation from the nation.
But when Musk expressed worries about the cost of offering the service and reports surfaced of limited Starlink availability in regions like Russian-occupied Crimea, this relationship sourmed. Later in June 2023, the Pentagon revealed it will fund Starlink for Ukraine.
