PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian People’s Power Movement (G57) today submitted a report to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) regarding the concession of a company managing water treatment plant (WTP) operations, which is alleged to be the cause of the water crisis throughout Sabah.

According to the Sabah Media portal, its chairman, Datuk Zulkarnain Mahdar, urged the MACC to investigate the matter and has provided several relevant documents for their review.

“I am here today to submit some documents to assist the MACC’s investigation. We are providing information.

“We want to request that the MACC investigate this, as it has become a public interest issue,” he stated when met outside the MACC building in Putrajaya.

Zulkarnain alleged that the company in question appears to have connections to the previous government during its tenure in the state.

“It seems there is a connection, which is why we are submitting these documents,” he said.

Earlier, Zulkarnain spent over 30 minutes submitting various documents to the MACC.

On September 23, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Haji Noor stated that the actions of the Warisan Party in terminating the concessions of the companies managing WTPs across Sabah while in power were the primary cause of the worsening water issues in the state.

Hajiji claimed that Warisan was lying when blaming the current Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS)-Pakatan Harapan (PH) Plus government for the ongoing water problems.

He noted that the termination of the concessions for nine contractor companies appointed by the previous government not only led to the state government being sued and required to pay RM315 million in compensation but also adversely affected the management of the existing water supply.
