KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today reaffirmed Malaysia’s commitment to achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, as agreed upon with 192 other countries in 2015.

According to Bernama, he stated that while Malaysia has performed well in the latest Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) indicators, achieving 43 percent compared to the global average of around 17 percent, this achievement holds no significant meaning if the principles of justice, compassion, and environmental well-being are not emphasized.

“God willing, the government is committed to strengthening sustainability under the MADANI framework, which is centered on balanced development reflecting Malaysia’s unique identity,” he said in a post on Facebook.

During the launch of the SDG 2024 Summit today, the Prime Minister noted that Malaysia has achieved 43 percent of the total 248 current SDG indicators, significantly exceeding the global average of 17 percent.

He remarked that this performance clearly indicates that Malaysia has successfully faced challenges through reform; however, this is not a permanent guarantee.

The 2030 Agenda is a global commitment towards more sustainable, resilient, and inclusive development, encompassing 17 SDGs and 169 targets.
