Datuk Zakaria Shaaban appointed as Director-General of Immigration
KUALA LUMPUR: The Deputy Secretary-General of Consumer Empowerment at the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN), Datuk Zakaria Shaaban, has been appointed as the new Director-General of Immigration, effective today.
According to a report by TV3, the former Deputy Director-General of Immigration (Management) replaces Datuk Ruslin Jusoh.
The Immigration Department (JIM) announced via a Facebook post that the handover ceremony of the Director-General position from Ruslin to Zakaria took place at the Hamka Hall at JIM Headquarters today.
“Following this, Ruslin was honored at the Farewell Ceremony at JIM Headquarters. The event began with a speech by the Deputy Director-General of Immigration (Management), Ismail Mokhtar, followed by remarks from Ruslin.
“The event concluded with Ruslin conducting an Immigration Honorary Guard inspection, while his wife, Datin Nazirah Abd Hamid, the Chairwoman of the Small Branch of Puspanita Malaysia Immigration Department, was escorted in the ceremonial immigration vehicle during the ceremony,” the post stated.
Also present were division directors, state immigration directors, senior officials, and staff of JIM.
In a separate post, JIM congratulated Zakaria on his appointment as Director-General of Immigration.
“We, the staff of JIM, welcome you and wish you success in your new role,” the post read.
In another post, JIM expressed appreciation to Ruslin for his service during his tenure as Director-General.
“A heartfelt thank you and recognition are extended for the dedication and service rendered during his time as Director-General of Immigration,” the post stated.
Ruslin was appointed as Director-General of Immigration on March 22, 2023, succeeding Datuk Seri Khairul Dzaimee Daud, who was transferred to serve as the Director-General of the Legal Affairs Division (BHEUU) at the Prime Minister’s Department (JPM) at that time.
Khairul Dzaimee is now the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (KUSKOP) since September 5.
