KUALA LUMPUR: The government will continue to focus on reducing the non-functional water supply, which remains at an unsatisfactory level, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

According to the Wilayahku portal, he stated that this action is crucial to minimize waste and ensure the sustainability of the country’s water resources.

He made these comments after chairing the 6th National Water Council meeting in Putrajaya yesterday afternoon.

Anwar explained that the meeting served as a platform for the Federal Government and State Governments to review and discuss the management of the country’s water resources.

“The meeting focused on strategies to improve river water quality control and to strengthen the management and research of new contaminants in Malaysia’s water resources.

“There are many implications caused by water pollution, some of which are at a concerning level,” he said on Facebook.

Meanwhile, Anwar emphasized the importance of enforcement based on regulations and laws.

He mentioned the need for strengthening governance and the application of the latest technology to improve river water management quality across the country.

“The meeting also agreed on the need to establish a working committee to address pollution threats.

“This committee will involve all stakeholders to ensure that these threats can be addressed promptly,” he added.
