KUALA LUMPUR: Students are encouraged to instill an active spirit of sports from their primary school years, said the Prime Minister’s Political Secretary, Datuk Azman Abidin.

He said that sports not only strengthen the body but also educate the mind and develop high discipline.

“If any of our children are interested in making sports a career in the future, it is our responsibility to provide adequate platforms and facilities,” he said on Facebook.

He made these comments after officiating the 14th Annual Athletics Championship 2024 at Sekolah Kebangsaan Seri Permaisuri.

Azman said educating children in sports from a young age is akin to the Malay proverb “melentur buluh biarlah dari rebungnya” (bending bamboo should start from the shoot).

“This means that educating our children should start from a young age.

“We want to see these students succeed in their fields, whether at the national or international level in the future,” he said.

Meanwhile, Azman also officiated the Annual Sports Championship of Sekolah Kebangsaan Alam Damai 2024 yesterday.

He expressed pride in seeing the students at Sekolah Kebangsaan Alam Damai enthusiastically participating in their annual sports championship.

“The presence of parents coming to support the students is also very encouraging.

“I highly value the motto of Sekolah Kebangsaan Alam Damai, ‘Our children, our school, our responsibility.’

“This philosophy reminds us that the responsibility of educating the nation’s children does not solely rest on teachers but also on parents and the entire community,” he said.

According to Azman, this spirit of togetherness must continue to flourish in every citizen.

“If we do not take on this responsibility, who will?

“The commitment to educate and guide our children towards success must remain a collective effort between parents and teachers,” he said.
