Suspect in Albertine Leo kidnapping charged today

KUALA LUMPUR: The suspect in the kidnapping case of six-year-old Albertine Leo Jia Hui at Eco Galleria, Iskandar Puteri, on July 20, will be charged at the Johor Bahru Court Complex and the Kulai Magistrate’s Court today.

According to a report by Bernama, Johor Police Chief Commissioner M. Kumar stated that the 31-year-old man will face 15 charges after two investigation papers were referred to the Deputy Public Prosecutor’s Office and received instructions for prosecution.

“The suspect will face one charge each under Section 363 and Section 346 of the Penal Code, seven charges under Section 292 of the Penal Code, four charges under Section 8(b) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, one charge under Section 10 of the same act, and one additional charge under Section 15(a)(ii) of the act,” he said in a statement yesterday.

The man was arrested at 4:45 AM on July 23 at a budget hotel in Batang Kali, Selangor, along with the girl.

Last Sunday, the suspect was released on police bail after his 13-day remand period ended; however, he was re-arrested on the same day following the discovery of various sex toys, adult pornography, and child sexual abuse materials at his residence in Kulai.
