KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia will continue to bring the voices of the Palestinian people to the international stage to exert pressure on the Zionist Israeli regime to support a ceasefire and end the oppression in Gaza, said Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.

According to Bernama, he stated that the issue of the Zionist regime’s atrocities was raised in all meetings, including 19 ministerial meetings and nine bilateral meetings with ASEAN dialogue partners during the 57th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM) and related meetings.

“Malaysia is highlighting the atrocities against the Palestinian people to pressure the Zionist regime and Israel to stop the killings and accept a permanent ceasefire proposal.

“We also want Palestinians to be allowed to return to their homes and for Palestine to be recognized as an independent state and allowed to join the United Nations (UN),” he told Malaysian media yesterday.

Mohamad mentioned that during the Post-Foreign Ministers’ Conference with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, he also conveyed the Palestinian voice for U.S. attention.

“Blinken acknowledged what Malaysia presented, but the issue is how to achieve it,” he said.

Mohamad hopes the U.S. will play a role in ending the Israeli atrocities against Palestinians and support a ceasefire in Gaza.

Leading the Malaysian delegation to the 57th AMM since Tuesday, Mohamad has held meetings and bilateral discussions with counterparts from ASEAN dialogue countries, including Australia, China, Canada, the European Union, India, Norway, South Korea, Turkey, and the United Kingdom (UK).

In a meeting with UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy, Mohamad noted a significant shift in UK policy, which previously vocally supported the Zionist regime but now seeks to see the end of Israeli atrocities.

He also reported that Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly expressed a similar stance, with Canada showing sympathy for the Palestinian people.

“Both the UK and Canada have agreed to restore contributions to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) to assist the Palestinian people,” he said.

On the final day of the 57th AMM and related meetings, Mohamad expressed appreciation and support to the leadership of Laos for successfully hosting the 57th AMM, which has laid the foundation for further cooperation and progress in building the ASEAN Community.
