The government will work to help the people balance the effects of rising prices, says PM
KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stated that the government will continue to seek solutions to the cost of living issue by helping the people balance the impact of rising prices, in line with positive indications regarding the country’s current economic performance.
According to Berita Harian, the Prime Minister said that although the country’s economic growth figures for the second quarter of this year are positive, and inflation and unemployment rates remain low, this does not mean that the issues faced by the people have been resolved.
“Am I satisfied with the performance in terms of growth, inflation, and low unemployment? I am not satisfied because we are still facing the problem of the cost of living.
“The cost of goods is straining people’s lives. That’s why I announced several measures to directly help the people. The Rahmah Cash Aid (STR), which benefits nine million people with a total of RM10 billion, is not insignificant.
“In October, I will announce a new public service remuneration system with an increase in public sector salaries. It will be the highest raise in history,” he said in his speech at the Closing Ceremony of the National Cooperative Congress 2024 at the Kuala Lumpur World Trade Centre (WTC) today.
Also present were Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Datuk Ewon Benedick and his deputy Datuk R Ramanan, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali, and President of the National Cooperatives Movement of Malaysia (ANGKASA) Datuk Seri Dr Abdul Fattah Abdullah.
