Mohd Shuhaily to Continue Duties as Usual – Lawyer

SEPANG: Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) Director-General Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain will continue carrying out his duties as usual until informed otherwise, said his lawyer, Datuk Rosal Azimin Ahmad.

Rosal Azimin, who represents Mohd Shuhaily, said any decision regarding the AKPS Director-General’s position would be subject to administrative procedures and regulations set by the Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN) or the Public Service Department (JPA).

“I believe that, as a civil servant, he will continue performing his duties until instructed otherwise by the Home Ministry, the Public Service Department or other relevant authorities, in accordance with the normal procedures governing civil servants,” he told reporters after court proceedings involving Mohd Shuhaily here today.

Rosal Azimin said Mohd Shuhaily had completed the bail process, with bail set at RM1,500 for each charge, and the case would be mentioned again at the Sepang Magistrates’ Court on November 25.

He urged all parties to refrain from speculation, as court proceedings were still ongoing and the principle that a person is innocent until proven guilty must be respected.

“We cannot say much about the case. It is a court process. I hope everyone will also refrain from making comments. There is no need to say anything. It is based on the principle of innocent until proven guilty,” he said.

Asked about Mohd Shuhaily’s current condition, Rosal Azimin said his client was doing well and remained positive about going through the legal proceedings.

“As he himself said, ‘If this is the price I have to pay, then I’ll pay. Then let’s go with it.’ That is his attitude. However, he does not blame anyone,” he said.

Earlier, Mohd Shuhaily was charged at the Magistrates’ Court here today with two counts of causing hurt to two police officers.

Mohd Shuhaily, 54, pleaded not guilty to both charges after they were read out before Magistrate Khairatul Animah Jelani and claimed trial.

The charges were brought under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of one year’s imprisonment, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both upon conviction.
