MACC launched Sungai Bakap by-election motion room
KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) launched an election campaign room to enable the public to channel information and complaints related to acts of corruption and abuse of power in the Sungai Bakap State Assembly By-Election (PRK).
According to Bernama, the MACC in a statement today informed that the operation room is operating at the Penang MACC Headquarters and at the MACC Seberang Perai Branch office.
“This motion room operates 24 hours until July 6. In addition, the public can also channel any complaints of corruption and abuse of power via email to prk2024_ppg@sprm.gov.my or call 04-2299262 extension 1107,” according to the statement that.
The MACC also reminded all candidates and political parties who contested not to engage in activities that could violate election laws and regulations in line with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009 and the Electoral Offenses Act 1954.
The Sungai Bakap state assembly by-election witnessed a one-on-one clash between Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidates, former director of the Aminuddin Baki North Branch Institute, Dr Joohari Ariffin, and former logistics executive who is also PAS Vice President Nibong Tebal, Abidin Ismail, who represents Perikatan Nasional (PN). .
The by-election was held following the death of incumbent Nor Zamri Latiff on May 24 due to inflammation in the stomach.
The EC set the early voting day for the Sungai Bakap state by-election on July 2, while July 5 is the voting day.
