No school is exempt from implementing DLP, said the minister
NIBONG TEBAL: No school is exempt in implementing the Bilingual Program (DLP) for Science and Mathematics subjects using Malay.
According to Berita Harian, the Minister of Education, Fadhlina Sidek, said all schools, including boarding schools, must comply with the guidelines set in relation to the implementation of the program aimed at Enhancing the Malaysian Language & Strengthening the English Language (MBMMBI).
The Ministry of Education (KPM) is ready to help any school that deals with the implementation of the guidelines regarding the DLP program.
“It is not true (the allegation that there are certain schools that do not follow the DLP guidelines), all of our (schools) have confirmed that they have to use them and refer to the guidelines that they have no problem with.
“So far, the schools that have problems with the implementation of the DLP guidelines, we will go down and help the schools involved to implement the guidelines,” he said.
He wrote a report by the Chairman of the Parents’ Action Group for Education (PAGE), Noor Azimah Abdul Rahim, who accused elite schools such as Kolej Melayu Kuala Kangsar (MCKK) and Kolej Tunku Kurshiah except for the implementation of DLP.
Noor Azimah previously said that the new guidelines also clearly exempt Sarawak, allowing all primary schools to run full DLP from 2020, meaning the medium of instruction for all Science and Mathematics classes is English.
Earlier, Fadhlina, who is also the Member of Parliament for Nibong Tebal, was met at the launch of the Teaching School of the Sahabat Language Program of the Malaysian Teacher Education Institute at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Sungai Bakap, today.
Recently, DAP Chairman Lim Guan Eng also urged the MoE to explain why MCKK and Tunku Kurshiah College were given the flexibility to ‘ignore’ DLP’s new rules.
