Student Bitten in Attack by Seven Stray Dogs While Cycling to School

MELAKA: A Form One student was injured after being bitten by one of a pack of seven stray dogs that attacked him while he was on his way to school in Krubong here yesterday morning.

In the incident at about 7.20am, Muhammad Anas Fakhry Mohamad Azdly Shah, 13, was cycling from Taman Krubong Perdana to Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Krubong when he was chased by a pack of six to seven dogs.

The victim said the dogs were already along the route when he passed an area near a temple, prompting him to try to avoid them by turning right onto a rocky path.

“I didn’t notice the pack of dogs at first because I had been cycling downhill. When I started going uphill again, I saw six or seven dogs barking.

“I continued cycling as usual because the dogs had chased me before, but they had never bitten me.

“But yesterday morning, the dogs suddenly became more aggressive and were not afraid. One of them chased me and managed to bite my left leg while I was cycling,” he told MalaysiaGazette when contacted.

He said he was fortunate that the dog released its bite and turned to chase his older brother, who was following behind on the same shortcut. His brother managed to escape unharmed.

“The incident really worries me because I never expected the dogs to attack to the point of biting someone. Many other schoolchildren using this route have also been chased by them before,” he said.

Meanwhile, the teenager’s father, Mohamad Azdly Shah Jamaludin, 46, said the incident was concerning as the pack of stray dogs had allegedly been roaming around Taman Krubong Perdana for some time.

He said the route was frequently used by students as a shortcut to school, particularly those who cycled, although some had begun taking alternative routes after repeatedly being chased by the dogs.

“I had previously heard residents say that a preschool pupil from Sekolah Kebangsaan Krubong 2, which is near the area where my son was attacked, had also been chased by dogs.

“Just imagine, the preschool child is very young, and the school is located right next to the area where these stray dogs roam. We are worried that something more serious could happen.

“Fortunately, the doctor told us yesterday that my son was lucky because the wound caused by the dog’s upper fang was not very deep and did not involve the lower fang. Otherwise, the injury could have been much worse,” he claimed.

Mohamad Azdly Shah said the relevant authorities had previously taken action, adding that Paya Rumput assemblyman Datuk Rais Yasin had also been attentive to the issue.

“What is strange is that whenever the relevant agency comes to catch the stray dogs, the animals are nowhere to be seen, causing the problem to persist.

“I’m not blaming anyone, but I hope this matter will be taken seriously before something worse happens, especially involving children,” he said.
