No Johor EXCO Member Detained by MACC – Abd Halim

KUALA LUMPUR: No Member of the Johor State Executive Council (EXCO), officer or agency under the administration of the Johor State Government was detained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) yesterday.

The individual arrested on suspicion of involvement in corruption and abuse of power involving approximately RM1.6 million is the Chairman of the Action Committee for Generation 2 Housing Lot Applications for the Land Scheme at Tenggaroh 2, Johor.

This was confirmed by MACC Chief Commissioner, Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman, who said the MACC is committed to conducting investigations in a professional, independent and transparent manner.

“We will not compromise on any corrupt practices or abuse of power,” he said here today.

Today, the MACC was reported to have detained the chairman of a housing committee of a federal statutory body in the state on suspicion of soliciting and accepting bribes, as well as abusing power by deceiving applicants for government land in housing lot applications.

The male suspect, aged in his 40s, was arrested at 7.30 pm yesterday while giving his statement at the Johor MACC office.

The suspect is believed to have abused his power by requesting approximately RM4,000 from each of 400 applicants for housing lots, involving a total of approximately RM1.6 million, before misappropriating the money for personal use through withdrawals from the committee’s bank account using fake invoices.

Preliminary investigations found that the suspect is suspected of committing all these acts between 2016 and 2025.
