MCMC asks Telegram and Tik Tok to remove content allegedly related to the murder case of Zayn Rayyan
KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has submitted a request to the operators of TikTok and Telegram to take down content in the form of information alleged to be the facts of the investigation into the murder of Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin.
Reported Berita Harian, MCMC in its statement, informed that the application was not only submitted to the two social media platform operators involved, but also other social media operators.
“MCMC has identified a number of social media sites that display alleged investigative information leaked to the public related to the Zayn Rayyan case.
“MCMC has also submitted an application to the operators of social media platforms including TikTok and Telegram for the reduction of the content involved,” he said.
The statement added that the alleged dissemination of investigation information on the case was an irresponsible action and could interfere with the trial of the case.
“MCMC warns the public not to share unauthentic or false information.
“Social media users are also advised to delete posts or any comments that may cause speculation,” he said.
He said, sharing unauthentic or false information can be an offense according to Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
Conviction is punishable by a fine not exceeding RM50,000 or imprisonment not exceeding one year or both, as well as an extended fine of RM1,000 for each day the offense continues after conviction.
Yesterday, BH reported that Bukit Aman will conduct an investigation with MCMC regarding the spread of information on the alleged investigation of the murder case of Zayn Rayyan, 6, on social media.
Director of the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (JSJ), Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain is reported to have said that spreading information whose validity cannot be ascertained in this way is a very irresponsible act.
Following that, he said he would contact the MCMC to prevent the spread of unauthentic information that could interfere with the trial of the autistic child.
The police will also ask for MCMC’s help in the investigation, including taking down the content that was detected uploaded on an account on Telegram, yesterday.
