I Believe Cabinet Will Agree to Disclose Tabung Haji RCI Report – PM

SEBERANG PERAI: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim believes that the Cabinet will agree to disclose the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report regarding Tabung Haji to the public, thus there is no obstacle to making it known.

Anwar said, however, it must go through the proper process before being decided by the Cabinet line-up.

“Now there is much clamour regarding the proposal to establish a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) concerning Tabung Haji. Some are challenging why the report has not been disclosed to the public.

“I have no objection and in principle I agree, but we need to follow the process. Let me bring this matter to the Cabinet meeting this Wednesday and I believe the Cabinet will agree,” he said when speaking at the National Training Week (NTW) 2026 Launch Ceremony here today.

NTW 2026 is being held over two days, starting today at UiTM Penang Branch, Permatang Pauh.

According to him, the disclosure of the report was previously postponed to give room for the new management of Tabung Haji to implement improvements to the institution.

He said that step was also aimed at ensuring that depositors’ confidence in the institution was not affected while the recovery process was underway.

“Now we are ready to announce it to the public. If it had been disclosed too early earlier, we were worried that public confidence in Tabung Haji would be affected,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister informed that Tabung Haji recently received the award for best management among haj management institutions in the world.

“Last week, the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman, sent a message of congratulations. This proves that when we work well and rectify weaknesses, we are able to elevate the nation’s dignity,” he added.

Yesterday, the media reported that the Prime Minister gave an assurance to disclose the RCI report regarding Tabung Haji to the public after finding that the institution is now in a stronger and more stable position.

He was reported to have said that the government had originally agreed to publish the report, but the decision was postponed while Tabung Haji’s recovery process was being carried out to avoid concerns among depositors.

Earlier, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs), Dr. Zulkifli Hasan, denied the allegation by former Treasury Secretary-General, Tan Sri Ahmad Badri Mohd. Zahir, that he sold strategic assets of Tabung Haji.

He explained that the sale of problematic assets to Urusharta Jamaah Sdn. Bhd. in 2018 was a collective Cabinet decision to cover a deficit of RM10.9 billion and save the institution, adding that the assets are now beginning to be repurchased after Tabung Haji’s financial position has returned to strength.
