Moderate Earthquake Jolts North Sumatra, Tremors Also Felt In Klang Valley

PETALING JAYA: A moderate earthquake measuring 5.7 on the magnitude scale was detected in North Sumatra, Indonesia, at 12.18 p.m. today.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia), in a statement, informed that the earthquake’s epicentre was located at coordinates 4.2 degrees North and 97.6 degrees East, approximately 55 kilometres (km) southwest of Langsa, Indonesia, at a depth of 10 km.

According to MetMalaysia, tremors resulting from the earthquake were also felt in several areas on the West Coast of Peninsular Malaysia.

Members of the public who experienced the tremors are urged to fill out the survey questionnaire provided on the official MetMalaysia website to assist in the monitoring process and the collection of further information.
