SUKMA Selangor 2026 Hosting Cost Reduced By 67 Per Cent
KUALA LUMPUR: The SUKMA Selangor 2026 Secretariat has to date reduced the hosting cost for this edition of the Games by 67 per cent compared to the original cost.
Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, Mordi Bimol, said that the Special Meeting of the SUKMA Supreme Committee on 30 April had decided that the hosting of SUKMA Selangor 2026 should be carried out prudently through operational cost-saving strategies.
“The identified cost-saving measures cover technical and competition aspects, facilities and venue preparation, health and emergency services, volunteers and committee staff, official ceremonies, transportation, promotion and media, as well as the participation of the Brunei Darussalam contingent.
“This can reduce the financial burden on the state government as the host of the Games, while ensuring more efficient use of resources without compromising the smooth management of the Games,” he said in the Dewan Negara here today.
He said this in response to a question from Senator Tiew Way Keng regarding the current status of coordination between the Federal Government and the SUKMA Supreme Committee and the Selangor Sports Exco concerning the hosting of SUKMA 2026.
This follows the commitment of the Selangor state government to continue the Games through operational cost-saving strategies of up to 50 per cent by leveraging digital infrastructure and existing facilities.
Mordi said the Special Meeting of the SUKMA Supreme Committee held previously was chaired by the Minister of Youth and Sports and comprised representatives from the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS), the National Sports Council (MSN), the National Sports Institute (ISN), the Selangor state government, and the Olympic Council of Malaysia (MOM).
He said it was held to discuss and coordinate policy matters to ensure that the hosting of SUKMA Selangor 2026 could be carried out smoothly, orderly, and prudently.
Elaborating further, he said KBS through MSN would continue to strengthen strategic collaboration with the Selangor state government to ensure that every aspect of the hosting of SUKMA Selangor 2026 could be carried out in an orderly manner.
“Furthermore, prudently and in accordance with the standards of the national sports Games, thereby setting a new benchmark for efficient and sustainable sporting event hosting,” he said.
