Malaysia to Have a More Comprehensive Refugee Database by the End of This Year

CYBERJAYA: Malaysia is expected to have a more comprehensive, detailed, and credible refugee database by the end of this year through the implementation of the Refugee Registration Document Project, spearheaded by the Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN).

Speaking at the 104th Immigration Day Celebration, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the initiative, which is being implemented by the Immigration Department of Malaysia, will enable the government to obtain more comprehensive information on refugees currently residing in the country.

According to him, although Malaysia is not a signatory to the 1951 Refugee Convention, the government continues to adopt a structured and systematic approach in managing refugee-related issues.

“Today, through the Immigration Department, the Ministry of Home Affairs is leading a project known as the Refugee Registration Document Project. We have begun its implementation, and God willing, we expect to obtain the results before the end of this year,” he said here on Tuesday.
