SHAH ALAM: A total of 160,000 secondary school students and 20,000 primary school pupils in Selangor have benefited from the Selangor People’s Tuition Programme (PTRS) to improve their academic performance.

Dato’ Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the implementation of the programme has also contributed to the improvement of Selangor’s Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) State Average Grade (GPN) for three consecutive years.

He said PTRS was introduced to ensure that children from low-income families as well as those living in rural areas receive equal educational opportunities to achieve academic excellence.

“Selangor’s SPM GPN has continued to show consecutive improvements from 4.67 in 2023, to 4.59 in 2024, and now 4.52 in 2025.

“This figure proves the success of thousands of students who attend PTRS classes after school hours, with free meals provided and qualified teachers by their side,” he said in a Facebook post.

Amirudin added that PTRS has been strengthened this year with the addition of Physics and Chemistry modules in line with the goal of strengthening Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) achievement.

“The ePTRS platform has also been upgraded with two-way sessions between teachers and students in real time. There is no longer any excuse that tuition is expensive or far away.

“In Selangor, quality education is the right of every one of our children,” he added.

He, who holds the state education portfolio, informed that approximately 17,000 pupils have also benefited from the Didik Kasih Programme (PDK) to assist in the recovery of basic literacy and numeracy skills.

“These pupils are guided using special modules developed by Selangor’s own educators. At the same time, I am also pleased that the percentage of students requiring remedial classes is declining.

“This means that their foundation is becoming stronger before they step into secondary school,” he added.
