ISTANBUL: Eight people have been killed and 20 others injured in overnight attacks by the United States (US) on infrastructure in several Iranian provinces, reported Anadolu Agency (AA), citing local media.

The attacks occurred on Thursday night into Friday morning, targeting infrastructure in several areas of the country, according to the official IRNA news agency.

Head of the Public Relations and Information Centre of Iran’s Ministry of Health, Hossein Kermanpour, in a post on the X social media platform, said the death toll from the latest US attacks this month has risen to 38, with more than 400 others injured.

He said the deceased included three women and one individual under the age of 18, while the injured comprised 22 women and nine children. A total of 47 individuals are still being treated in hospitals, he said.

The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) on Thursday announced that it had completed another wave of attacks against Iran, marking the sixth consecutive night of US military operations targeting Iranian military assets.

Tensions in the region have been escalating since February when the US and Israel launched joint military operations against Iran, while Tehran responded by launching missile and drone attacks targeting Gulf countries hosting US military assets.

Iran and the US signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) brokered by Pakistan last month to end the conflict and reach a lasting peace agreement. However, tensions have flared again in recent days in the Strait of Hormuz, with both sides exchanging attacks.
