Selangor Strengthens Flood Preparedness Through Drills And Simulations
SHAH ALAM: The Selangor Government is actively conducting disaster drills and simulations at district and community levels as a measure to strengthen preparedness for flood risks.
Disaster Management Exco, Mohd Najwan Halimi said various simulation exercises have been carried out since early this year, coordinated by the State Disaster Management Unit (UPBN) in collaboration with authorities at district and community levels.
“These drills are to provide direct understanding to village heads and communities regarding the roles they can play in the event of a disaster.
“Preparations have been initiated early this year, we do not wait until two to three months before the Northeast Monsoon season,” he said.
He said this when met after officiating the Air Disaster Drill: Ex Urban Falcon 2026 Programme at Dewan Jubli Perak here today.
Mohd Najwan said UPBN also monitors climate change developments and current situations through the Disaster Control Centre, which operates around the clock.
“The monitoring conducted does not only focus on climate and weather changes, but also covers tectonic structures and movements.
“This includes preparations in the event of incidents such as earthquakes, as have occurred in several other places,” he said.
