West Asia Crisis: Government Monitors Impact on Employment

KOTA BHARU: The government is monitoring the impact of the West Asia crisis on the employment sector amid the current global economic uncertainty.

Deputy Minister of Economy, Datuk Seri Mohd Shahar Abdullah, said that employment is among the matters being given attention, in addition to ensuring the country’s supply remains secure and monitoring inflation movements.

“We are looking at oil supply to ensure we can last until the end of the year, besides monitoring the movement of inflation on goods so that pressure on the public is not felt broadly.

“We are also looking at those who have been laid off or those who have obtained new jobs,” he said.

He said this during a press conference after the Contractors’ Night event in conjunction with the 49th Annual General Meeting of the Malaysian Malay Contractors Association (PKMM) Kelantan chapter at a hotel here on Friday.

Mohd Shahar said the current situation in the West Asia crisis remains highly dynamic and difficult to predict, hence the government is always prepared to face various possibilities that could impact the national economy.

He said monitoring is carried out 24 hours a day through relevant agencies, and meetings will be convened should there be urgent matters requiring immediate action.

“As of today, we are prepared for all possibilities,” he said.

Meanwhile, he said the government is also taking steps to facilitate public access to information regarding the crisis developments through the Global Supply Crisis Monitoring Dashboard, which was developed specifically for that purpose.

According to him, the dashboard provides information on current developments to help the public obtain information from a single source more easily.

“The government will continue to ensure the national economy remains resilient by monitoring various aspects that could potentially affect the lives of the people following developments in this global crisis,” he said.
