KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia is accelerating the transformation of its Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) sector through expanded industry-driven training, artificial intelligence (AI)-powered job matching, and a new RM100 million investment aimed at producing a highly skilled workforce capable of meeting the demands of high-growth industries.

Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri Ramanan Ramakrishnan announced the initiative while delivering the keynote address at the 2026 National TVET Instructors and Accredited Centre Managers Conference held at Wyndham Grand Bangsar, describing TVET as a key pillar of Malaysia’s economic transformation and human capital development.

The additional RM100 million allocation will strengthen the country’s Higher Skills TVET programmes, allowing more Malaysians to acquire advanced technical competencies aligned with the evolving needs of industry while reducing the long-standing issue of skills mismatch in the labour market.

“Our objective is to ensure that every trainee graduates with skills that are directly relevant to industry requirements. We want TVET graduates to secure quality jobs that match their qualifications and expertise,” Ramanan said.

A major highlight of the government’s strategy is the expanded use of the MyFutureJobs platform, which incorporates artificial intelligence to connect TVET graduates with suitable employment opportunities based on their qualifications, competencies, and career aspirations.

According to the minister, graduates can register with the platform immediately after completing their training, allowing AI technology to recommend positions that best fit their skills while helping employers identify qualified talent more efficiently.

Ramanan noted that demand for skilled workers continues to increase across multiple sectors, extending beyond traditional industries such as oil and gas into advanced manufacturing, digital technology, and other high-value economic sectors. Many TVET graduates, he said, have experienced significant salary growth within months of entering the workforce.

The minister said the government’s TVET 2.0 Higher Skills initiative is designed to support Malaysia’s High-Growth, High-Value (HGHV) industries while contributing to the national aspiration of raising Gross National Income (GNI) per capita to approximately RM77,200 annually.

He added that Malaysia’s TVET transformation is being driven through stronger collaboration with industry partners, expansion of advanced technical programmes, digitalisation of training systems, and wider adoption of artificial intelligence in education and workforce planning.

The latest performance indicators demonstrate the success of these reforms. Institutions under the Ministry of Human Resources recorded a 95.5 per cent graduate employability rate within six months of graduation. Among those employed, 85.1 per cent secured jobs directly related to their field of study, while employer satisfaction reached an impressive 97.2 per cent.

Meanwhile, Department of Skills Development (JPK) Director-General Kamaruzaman Md Ali described TVET instructors and accredited training centre managers as the backbone of Malaysia’s skilled workforce development, emphasising their critical role in preparing talent capable of competing in the global economy.

Speaking under the conference theme “(R)EVOLUSI TVET: Empowering Competencies, Driving National Growth”, he urged TVET practitioners to embrace lifelong learning, continuous upskilling, and innovation to keep pace with rapid technological and industrial transformation.

The conference also marked the launch of three major initiatives: the JPK Internationalisation Action Plan 2026–2030, SkillsMalaysia Global, and the TVET Transformation Book. These initiatives aim to elevate Malaysia’s TVET ecosystem onto the international stage by strengthening global recognition, enhancing workforce mobility, and expanding strategic partnerships with industry players worldwide.

With increased investment, AI-driven employment solutions, and stronger industry collaboration, Malaysia is positioning its TVET ecosystem as a key driver of sustainable economic growth and a catalyst for developing a globally competitive, future-ready workforce.
