SHAH ALAM: The Sessions Court here ordered rapper Caprice to apologise and pay damages amounting to RM220,000 to Ebit Lew after being found to have defamed the independent preacher three years ago.
Caprice, whose real name is Ariz Ramli, 40, was ordered to make a public apology and delete seven statements made by him together with Indonesian influencer, Mondy Tattoo, within 48 hours.
Judge Zuhrina Mohamed Nor also ruled that the singer of the song ‘Lenglui’ cannot issue comments or make any statements regarding Ebit or his real name Ebit Irawan Ibrahim Lew, 42, in the future.
In the same proceedings, the court dismissed Caprice’s counterclaim on the grounds that it was baseless.
Ebit was represented by lawyer Datuk Akberdin Abdul Kader while Mohd Rezan Ezra Muhammad Mosinal appeared on behalf of Caprice.
Meanwhile, Ebit, through a post on his Facebook page, expressed his gratitude for the victory.
“Alhamdulillah, praise be to ALLAH, I won the lawsuit against Caprice. He was ordered to apologise for the defamation and pay a total of RM220,000,” he said.
On September 15, 2023, Caprice, who is also a humanitarian activist, was believed to have uploaded a video recording in which the woman was featured as a guest.
The plaintiff claimed that the recording, among other things, implied that Ebit had committed sexual harassment and taken advantage of Mondy, besides being an irresponsible person and a religious hypocrite.
The plaintiff claimed that Caprice, as the first defendant, maliciously published the video without making any fact verification from him or his lawyer.
He said, many negative comments, insults and curses were allegedly made by followers of Caprice’s YouTube account as a result of the video’s publication.
The plaintiff also claimed that the defamatory statements made by Caprice and Mondy caused him to be criticised, ridiculed and humiliated.
On September 29 of the same year, police called several individuals to assist in investigations into allegations of sexual harassment and defamation involving Ebit, Mondy and Caprice.
