ALOR GAJAH: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today praised the efficiency of the country’s civil servants for successfully improving Malaysia’s performance in the World Competitiveness Ranking 2026 by the International Institute for Management Development (IMD).

Anwar said Malaysia’s improved position also received praise from the President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, during his recent visit to the country.

Malaysia leapt to 15th place in the IMD World Competitiveness Ranking 2026, climbing eight rungs from last year’s 23rd position.

“Our performance (Malaysia) over these three and a half years is not because Anwar is the Prime Minister, no… (but) because of the system (of civil service administration), and colleagues in the team… because of the civil servants.

“The President (Berdimuhamedov) mentioned the World Competitiveness Index, you have shown excellent performance.

“I said thank you (to President Serdar), but I know this happens because of the civil service team… because the efficiency and service are not the result of my efforts alone, but the entire team across the country,” he said.

Anwar said this in his speech at the Prime Minister and Chief Secretary to the Government Casual Session with Civil Service Personnel of the Southern Zone at the Public Works Department Centre for Engineering and Technology Excellence (CREaTE) in Simpang Ampat here today.
