‘If You Know You Made an AI Song, Why Send It for a Competition?’ – Aepul Roza

SERDANG – Machine-made with the help of technology, composer Aepul Roza asserts that songs produced using artificial intelligence (AI) should not be nominated in any competition.

Aepul, whose real name is Noor Syaiful Mohd. Zalaludin, 37, said that works created using AI technology should only be played for entertainment purposes, not used to gain recognition.

“If that person knows he made a song using a machine with prompts, don’t send it for a competition. Why are they doing that?

“Let it be enough for other people to enjoy. Don’t send it for a competition to be appreciated as a composer because it wasn’t you who created it.

“To all ‘prompters’, please be self-aware. You made it using a computer, so why are you sending it for a competition? Don’t,” he said after the Trilogi press conference and the launch of a new single with Fiq Halim and Aweera titled ‘Gila’ at Astana Putra yesterday.

The vocalist of Drama Band said that AI is indeed capable of producing songs that easily capture listeners’ attention because the technology is designed to understand human tastes obtained through algorithms.

“For me, let it be enough that the song is enjoyable to listen to because the algorithm is very clever. It knows what humans like and wants to attract them.

“But when something catches on quickly, it usually doesn’t last long. Humans have a tendency to get bored easily, especially with something that is ‘instant’,” he said.

At the same time, Aepul also believes that competition organisers and judges must possess specific knowledge and skills to identify works created using AI technology.

“As a composer who has studied AI software, we can understand the vocabulary produced. Even listening once, you can already ‘smell’ AI.
That is why judges or filtering parties need to have this knowledge so that AI songs do not slip through and enter competitions.

“We already have software to detect AI songs, but it doesn’t really classify whether a song was written entirely by AI or only uses certain parts,” he elaborated.

Previously, the organiser of the Anugerah Lagu Indie (ALI) confirmed that one song using AI had made it past the Top 90 list before the entry was dropped and replaced with a new nomination.

Earlier, the voting phase for the selection of the Top 90 ALI was opened at the end of last May, while the nomination and song submission process closed on March 15, 2026.

Meanwhile, regarding the Trilogi concert at Big Pillars, Astana Putra on July 18 this year, he said that 30 songs would be performed by the three of them, divided into several segments.

“So far, preparations are going smoothly and we hope all our supporters can join us on that night,” he said.
