JAKARTA: Indonesia’s famous highland destination, Mount Bromo, is once again in the spotlight after a frost phenomenon resembling snow was reported to have appeared for the first time this year, according to detikjatim news portal.

The phenomenon was observed hitting several areas in the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS) in the early hours of Monday, thus creating a unique spectacle rarely seen in a tropical country.

Local reports mention that a layer of white ice crystals was clearly visible covering grassy areas, foliage and the vast sea of sand around Mount Bromo.

The phenomenon occurred following a drop in temperature to below 5 degrees Celsius in the early morning hours. The extremely cold weather caused the dew that had formed throughout the night to freeze, producing a white layer that looked like snow.

The emergence of this natural phenomenon attracted the attention of many tourists who were in the area since before sunrise.

Visitors did not miss the opportunity to take pictures and enjoy the extraordinary cold atmosphere, something rarely experienced in a tropical country like Indonesia.
