Perak’s police chief says they will keep a closer eye on jails in the state

IPOH: After the things that were found to be illegal at this district police station, all police lock-ups will be constantly checked and watched.

“Comm Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin, the chief of police in Perak, said that the police will not give up on any control, negligence, or wrongdoing issues that threaten the safety and integrity of its lockup management,” “All police department chiefs, area OCPDs, and lock-up supervisors have been told to keep inspecting and keeping an eye on things more.” The police are serious about the finding of prohibited items, including drugs and mobile phones,” he said in a statement on Friday (May 15).

The State Police Integrity and Standard Compliance Department was said to have found cell phones, packages with heroin and crystal, tobacco, money, and communication devices on four prisoners in a cell on Tuesday, May 12, around 10 p.m.

Comm Noor Hisam said that the situation is being looked into. The police have filed a report and handed over the items to the drugs department for further action. This is in line with Sections 38A(1) and 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act. “Disciplinary investigations will also be done to see if police officers or men were involved, including looking into how well they were supervised and how well they followed lock-up management procedures,” he said.

Earlier, Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail said that all state and district police chiefs have been told to check their jails regularly after drugs, cell phones, and weapons were found in a cell at the Ipoh Police Headquarters.
