LONDON: The United Kingdom and Turkey have finalized a multi-billion-pound agreement to provide training and support as part of Turkey’s 8 billion pounds ($10.73 billion) Typhoon fighter jet purchase, Britain’s Ministry of Defense confirmed on Wednesday.
The new contract focuses on UK-based training programs for Turkish pilots and ground crews, preparing them to operate the first batch of British-built Typhoon jets. The agreement marks a key step in implementing the broader fighter jet deal signed by both countries last year.
“This contract strengthens the operational capabilities of the Turkish Air Force and ensures effective integration of the Typhoon fleet,” the Ministry of Defense said in its statement.
Under the terms of the deal, Turkish personnel will undergo comprehensive instruction in the UK, including flight simulation, tactical operations, and maintenance procedures, ensuring full readiness for deployment upon delivery of the aircraft.
The UK-Turkey partnership reflects ongoing collaboration in defense technology and strategic military cooperation, reinforcing ties between the two nations in aerospace and defense sectors.
The Typhoon jets, known for their advanced multi-role capabilities, are expected to enhance Turkey’s air defense and combat readiness significantly once fully operational.
