SHAH ALAM: The suspect in the stabbing of a female student at a secondary school in Banting claimed that she acted out of dissatisfaction and harboured feelings after being believed to have been bullied.
Selangor Police Chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar, however, said that preliminary investigations so far have not found evidence pointing to the occurrence of bullying as claimed by the suspect.
He said that a thorough investigation is still ongoing and police urge the public to give investigating officers space to complete their probe.
“A comprehensive investigation is still ongoing and has not been completed. The police request the public to give space to investigating officers to conduct a full investigation.
“However, preliminary investigation findings at this stage found that the reason given by the suspect was dissatisfaction. It can be said that the suspect harboured feelings against several schoolmates who were alleged to have bullied the suspect.
“However, the testimony obtained so far does not point to the occurrence of bullying,” he said at a press conference at the Selangor Contingent Police Headquarters here today, Berita Harian reported.
Elaborating further, he said that the suspect is also believed to be facing stress issues and possibly family problems, which are currently being assessed by counselling experts.
Shazeli said that police are also investigating the aspect of social media use that may have influenced the suspect’s mind and behaviour.
“We are also looking at the aspect of social media use that is said to have influenced the mind and actions. What type of social media cannot be disclosed.
“Investigations also found that the suspect had previously been involved in an incident of jumping from a school building at the end of last year.
“Police also confirmed receiving a Person with Disabilities (OKU) card with the category of Autism in the suspect’s name, and she had not attended school for approximately eight months and underwent home schooling due to health issues,” he said.
He explained that police investigations also found that the suspect is believed to have taken the opportunity to enter the school compound when the gate was open, and this was not a weakness on the school’s part.
He said that investigations also found that the suspect purchased the sharp weapon online.
“The weapon was placed in a backpack and she entered the school compound through the open gate,” he said.
At the same time, he said that the female student who was the stabbing victim is in stable condition and is still receiving treatment at the hospital.
“The number of stab wounds cannot be provided yet. Police are waiting for the official medical report. We are not making guesses on how many there were,” he said.
The media previously reported that a Form Three female student was injured after being stabbed more than ten times in several parts of the back of her body, shoulder and face at a school in Banting.
Following the incident, the victim was rushed to Banting Hospital for further treatment.
The suspect, a teenage girl wearing a black T-shirt and red-and-black checked shorts during the incident, is believed to have entered the school compound through the main entrance.
