Kuala Lumpur: Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) investigators have seized assets worth an estimated RM6.9 million, including gold bars, foreign currency cash, and a luxury sports utility vehicle, in an ongoing probe into an alleged cartel linked to Army procurement projects.

According to MACC sources, the seizure followed a raid triggered by checks on a high-performance SUV that had been left at a workshop in the Klang Valley for repairs. Subsequent investigations led officers to uncover large quantities of valuables believed to be connected to the graft probe.

Among the items confiscated were three units of 999-grade gold bars, each weighing one kilogram and collectively valued at approximately RM1.8 million. Investigators also seized nine gold pieces weighing 100 grams each, estimated to be worth more than RM500,000.

In addition, cash in various foreign currencies, including US dollars, euros, British pounds, Japanese yen, and Saudi riyals, was recovered, contributing to the overall seizure value of RM6.9 million. The luxury SUV, estimated to be worth around RM360,000, is believed to have been purchased entirely in cash.

MACC Investigation Division senior director Datuk Zainul Darus confirmed the seizures when contacted, stating that the case is being investigated under Section 16(b) of the MACC Act 2009, which relates to the acceptance of gratification.

On Thursday, former Army chief Jen Tan Sri Muhammad Hafizuddeain Jantan and his two wives were remanded as part of the investigation into the alleged procurement cartel involving Army tenders. The probe is ongoing, with MACC expected to widen its investigations to trace the source of the seized assets and identify other individuals potentially linked to the case.
